Recap of
SPS Nuremberg 2025

At SPS Nuremberg 2025, OT security was not a side topic - it was an integral part of the discussions around automation and manufacturing. The trade fair emphasized the close intertwining of security requirements and production responsibility. Transparency and traceability in OT are increasingly recognized as critical for managing risks and maintaining stable production operations.

Three key challenges have emerged and are currently shaping the approach to OT security:

  • Lack of transparency in OT
Many organizations still lack a complete view of their assets, software versions, and changes within production systems. These "blind spots" are widely regarded as one of the greatest security risks in OT environments.

  • Insufficient traceability of changes
Isolated security measures are insufficient. Experts emphasize that documented changes, version comparisons, and automated backups are essential for quickly assessing and containing incidents when they occur.

  • OT Security as a Production Responsibility
OT security is increasingly recognized as a prerequisite for system availability, product quality, and compliance, especially in light of standards such as IEC 62443 and regulatory requirements such as NIS2.

These industry trends were reflected in the conversations at our booth. Visitors were primarily looking for solutions that can be integrated into existing production environments.

With Octoplant, we demonstrated how companies can

  • identify OT risks early on,
  • automatically secure and document changes to control systems, and
  • analyze disruptions more quickly by having the full technical context available at all times.

A particular highlight was our live demo in the BMW. This hands-on scenario clearly showed how important structured processes and up-to-date data are in the event of a disruption or security incident.

SPS Nuremberg 2025 sends a clear message: OT security is not created by individual tools, but by established, transparent, and traceable processes. Companies that invest in transparency, documentation, and disciplined change management today will not only strengthen their security posture, but also enhance the stability and resilience of their production operations.
