The challenge: Managing programs across a new production facility.
When planning its new manufacturing facility, Volkswagen Anhui needed a consistent approach to managing the programs used by its production equipment. The solution had to support different systems across three production shops while meeting two central requirements: transparent program management and fast recovery.
Manual backups would have required maintenance personnel to perform repetitive tasks for a growing number of devices. They would also have made it more difficult to maintain a clear overview of backup status, program versions, and changes made to equipment on the shop floor.
Volkswagen Anhui therefore looked for a centralized solution that could automate these processes and establish a consistent standard across the facility.

Volkswagen Anhui implemented the AMDT solution across its welding, painting, and final assembly operations in September 2022.
Programs from critical production equipment are backed up automatically at scheduled intervals and stored on a central server. The system archives different versions and gives maintenance teams a structured overview of the available program states.
This eliminates much of the repetitive work associated with manual backups. Maintenance personnel can spend more time on urgent and technically demanding tasks while the software performs routine backup and version management in the background.

Detecting changes to production programs.
The AMDT solution also compares programs retrieved from production equipment with defined reference versions. This allows IT and maintenance teams to determine whether a monitored program has changed.
The comparison shows which elements differ from the approved version and helps teams assess whether a modification was expected and authorized. This provides greater transparency across the production environment and supports a faster response to unexpected changes.

Preparing teams for independent operation.
AMDT supported the implementation with on-site training and practical exercises. Employees learned how to use the software, configure the required processes, and manage backup and version control tasks independently.
Device compatibility could also be tested before completion of the network architecture. This helped Volkswagen Anhui prepare the different systems for integration and establish the required processes before regular operation began.
AMDT’s technical team remained available for online support after implementation.
